White Defeats Marco Fu as World Grand Prix Snooker Semifinals Begin in Hong Kong
On Saturday, Judd Trump faced an unexpected setback in the World Grand Prix snooker tournament in Hong Kong, where he was defeated by Stuart Bingham in the semi-finals. Despite being the world number one and enjoying strong local support at Kai Tak Arena, Trump couldn’t maintain his impressive form, which had made him a favorite for the championship.
Bingham, who was the 2015 world champion but currently ranks 23rd, found his stride during the 32-player event and quickly established a commanding 5-1 lead. This left Trump unable to replicate his dominant 5-0 victory over Hossein Vafaei from the previous quarter-final match.
Although Trump managed to recover slightly by winning two more frames, he missed critical chances in the ninth frame. Bingham seized this opportunity to secure a 6-3 victory and advance to the final, where he is set to compete against Neil Robertson on Sunday. Reflecting on his performance, Bingham expressed his elation by saying he was “over the moon” and admitted to having “a tear in the eye.”
