Neil Robertson and Shaun Murphy exchange gracious messages following an epic World Grand Prix match.

In a thrilling semi-final match at the World Grand Prix in Hong Kong, Neil Robertson emerged victorious over Shaun Murphy with a narrow 6-5 win. The Australian snooker star began the match on a high note, delivering impressive breaks of 114 and 104. However, Murphy responded with remarkable skill, taking a 5-3 lead by scoring breaks of 52, 77, 64, 107, and 77.

Despite Murphy’s dominant position, Robertson staged a remarkable comeback, winning the next three frames without allowing his opponent to score. The decisive moment came with a stunning 114 break in the final frame, initiated by a risky long red shot. Robertson later acknowledged Murphy’s graciousness in defeat, noting that Murphy praised the shot as a testament to the quality of their match.

Robertson reflected on the sportsmanship of his opponent, highlighting Murphy’s commendable attitude in both victory and defeat. He expressed that Murphy’s respectful words were indicative of his status as a champion in the sport.

Meanwhile, Shaun Murphy conceded that the loss was difficult, particularly after being in such a promising position. In a video shared on social media, he acknowledged the cruel nature of snooker, admitting that he felt he had done little wrong during the match. He praised Robertson as one of the game’s greats and acknowledged the brilliance of the long red shot that sealed his fate.

As for Robertson, he advanced to his second final of the season, having previously won the English Open in September. He now aims for his 25th ranking title, with Stuart Bingham standing in his way. Bingham, who delivered a surprising victory over Judd Trump in the other semi-final, will face Robertson in the final match.

Stuart Bingham’s path to the final was unexpected, given his recent form. He achieved breaks of 104, 72, and 69 to take a commanding 5-1 lead against Trump. Although Trump rallied with breaks of 124 and 72, Bingham secured his spot in the final. This marks Bingham’s first ranking final since the Gibraltar Open in March 2019, a testament to his perseverance despite earlier struggles this season.

The stage is set for an exciting final, as both Robertson and Bingham vie for the prestigious title in Hong Kong.
